The Power of Whole Grains For Your Weight Loss Diet

The first thing that many people do when starting a weight loss diet is to cut out carbs. I have nothing against cutting out simple carbs like sugar and white flour but it is a big mistake to remove complex carbs from the diet.

Complex carbs such as 100% whole grain and 100% whole wheat products are wonderful for helping our stomach feel satisfied and 100% whole grain products also take longer to eat then white flour thus satisfying our urge to eat. If you read the labels of 100% whole grain products you will notice that they are often low in calories and low in fat, in addition they are high in fiber which may help prevent colon cancer.

A quick lunch of 2 slices of lean deli turkey meat with lettuce and tomatoes on a 100% whole grain pita rolls in at around 250 calories and will satisfy your hunger for quite a while. If you are on a standard 1500 calories per day you can also add a piece of fruit and a few low-fat cheese cubes or non-fat yogurt for a lunch that will satisfy your stomach, taste buds and make you feel as though you are not even dieting. It will also still be under the calorie allotment that you will have for lunch.

Don’t forget that there is also 100% whole grain pasta on the market and wouldn’t that make a great dinner?

It is recommended that we consume at least 30 grams of fiber a day for a healthy colon and digestive system and for keeping our weight in check so don’t forget to add 100% whole grains into your diet.
