Maybe, you don’t eat much junk food, yet you continue to gain weight. It’s very possible that it’s not the type of food you eat but the quantity of your portions.

It has been shown that small meals throughout the day can help you lose weight. This is because it evens out your metabolism rate and whatever you eat gets burned up quickly.

When you are looking at which types of food you eat during the day, you should also be checking your portion sizes.

Larger meal sizes also means larger calorie intake. When you eat in small portions the amount of calories are low. To get started you need to normalize or more appropriately reduce the size of the meas or snacks you eat throughout the day. You can still add small portions of foods that you really like and want to eat.

Small meals works best with our bodies. This is because you are giving your body a small quantity of energy that it needs at that point in time. If you give the body more energy than what it actually needs then it would have to store the excess portion in the fat reserve.

This results in weight gain day by day. But if you are eating in small sizes then the body does not need to store much fat and hence it can burn the earlier stored fat when time arises. This is how small size meals help you to lose weight.

It is also recommended that you should eat small portions of meals throughout the day.

So if earlier you ate three big meals then now go for 6 small meals. This would keep your body balanced and there would be a regular flow of protein, carbs and fats to your body. The muscle tissue would stay maintained. And as you know more muscle tissue means increased metabolism rate and that means that you burn more calories per day with more lean muscle on your body.

There is another advantage of eating small meals. You don’t feel too heavy and lethargic as you feel after eating the full size meals. With smaller meals you would be more willing to move around easily and you would not feel that your body is too heavy.

Thus small meals keeps you away from laziness and you are more active and energetic. So when you move around more there are more chances you would be able to lose weight and burn fat.

It is also advised to those who want to lose weight that they should have a glass full of water before starting their meal as water can help to fill your stomach until your brain recognizes that you have eaten as it takes approximately 20-30 minutes before your body get full from your meal.

You should also chew your food slowly and gradually and in the beginning to get used to the chewing process you can even count the times you chew. The more you chew the easier it would be for your system to digest the food. You can also eat salads along with your food which would fill up your stomach and you would not be willing to eat more calories.

I hope you have realized the importance of eating meals in smaller sizes in order to lose weight. Adopt this way of life today and you would feel the difference in a few days.

It has been researched and proven that snacks can help you to lose weight.
Yep, snacking can be good!

Although you may think that you are doing your diet good by “practically starving” you’re not. You will be deprived and this will cause you to either stop your diet entirely or to binge and break your diet more often than you should.

So if you have been trying hard to shed those extra pounds then you can use your cravings for snacks for your advantage.

But it is very important that you don’t snack up on oily and junk food. Eating the right snacks helps your stomach feel full longer so that you won’t be tempted to snack on junk food later on. So let’s see what snacks are good for you to eat if you want to drop the pounds.

Frozen blueberries, bananas, grapes can be a wonderful snack for you. These are very refreshing and natural and also keep your stomach full. You can substitute them with many creamy desserts and they would be as satisfying as those.

How about a fat free yogurt and add in a few frozen berries - yummmm.

Dates, mangoes, papaya are very sweet and natural. You can easily eat them if you have got the urge to munch on candy. These can also be eaten in dried forms and you would love their taste. They are also rich in vitamin C, A and iron. If you do choose to try the diet version be sure to read the ingredients as many dried fruits have added fat and sugar and the calories can go through the roof.

You have to also remember that with dried fruit the moisture has been taken out so while a 1/2 cup serving of fresh fruit is a size low calorie treat having a 1/2 cup serving of dried fruits could be 4 times the calories - so eat sparingly.

You can eat low fat crackers instead of the standard rich biscuits. You can easily use them as your snacks whenever you are hungry and just feel like munching on something. These can keep you away from fatty chips. You can also try the new baked chips if you are watching your fat intake but still remember to check the calorie content as some are very low but some will shock you and your diet.

If you want more refreshing snacks then you can make yourself a nice green salad. You can add all your favorite fruits and vegetables and mix them in. In the end you can add lemon, low fat yogurt, or olive oil as dressing. The salad bowl would be very refreshing and you would also feel very full. Just like the salad you can also have small or mini sandwiches with low fat cheese and it would taste as good as anything else. If you have not tried sliced strawberries or orange slices in your salad you are in for a treat.

Just like this you can look for other low fat snacks which can keep you fit. If you start thinking before putting anything in your mouth then you would be really able to keep your weight stable or continue to lose weight if you are dieting.

People who don’t really notice what they are eating are the ones who have got most problems with their weight and then they regret later. So it is better to think today and have a healthier tomorrow.

It seems that everyday there is new information on how to lose weight. At the same time we hear about what we believed to be true about weight loss is actually not true.

There gets to be a point where we are not sure where to turn for information. Should we follow the diet books, maybe follow our best friends advise or stay completely away from a particular type of diet and eat sensibly?

Well we all know that the sensible route is the best, but all these new diets that hype rapid weight loss and amazing results are like shiny objects that grab our attention and we drop the tried and true and reach for that magic diet only to lose weight and gain it all back again within a few months.

For example let’s look at carbs. First we hear than we should have absolutely no carbs and by doing this we will drop the fat quickly. Sure it works, but you can only eat that way for a short time and once you reintroduce carbs back into your diet, you’ll see your weight skyrocket.

However, if we eat carbs sensibly we can lose weight and also it is a diet that we can live it. Yes, we can have a small piece of cake or a cookie and not worry about totally blowing our diet.

It’s back to being sensible. It’s learning how to eat food from all food groups without getting distracted by these “shiny” new diets.

More so then learning what type of foods to eat we should be more concerned about the sizes of our portions. Do you really know how big a portion of cereal is? How about spaghetti? Salad dressing or bread? Probably not.

Unless you actually measure your food every single meal I can almost guarantee that it’s not the type of food you eat that has been making you fat but the quantity.

Until you learn what true portion sizes are not matter what diet you go on your results will not be optimal.

Instead of concentrating on the foods that you eat, concentrate on the size. By controlling your portion size you can eat almost any food you want and never have to worry about gaining weight.

I remember when I was unpacking my grand parents dishes as few years back and noticed how small the plates were and how even the size of the coffee cup were 1/3 of the size of my coffee mug. Their dishes weren’t small, it’s just since mine were much newer they were also much bigger. Without realizing it, I was filling up my larger plate with food and eating about 2/3 more than I would have 20 or 30 years ago.

That’s why I was gaining weight. It’s not the type of food that I was eating since my grand parents smothered their food with butter, heavy sauces and always had dessert, it was the size of my portions.

It is very hard to weigh and measure each and every piece of food that goes into your mouth, but until you do, eat diet that you start will end with failure.

You have a few choices:
Continue to eat like you do now and be unhappy about your weight.
Follow the next fad diet, lose weight then gain it all back again.
Or really take the time to check the size of your portions.

Portion control can be time consuming and often frustrating but you can do it. You can also do what many others do and let someone do it for you.

Programs like Nutrisystem make it easy for you to see what a real portion size would be and also which foods will give you the most nutrition for your calories. You don’t need to be on a program like Nutrisystem forever, just until you get to understand what real portion sizes are and learn tips to help you get through the times when a craving may attack. They also show you how to eat sensibly, which is the only tried and true way to lose weight once and keep it off. By gong with a program like Nutrisystem you’ll easily get to recognize correct portion sizes by sight and feel. It will become natural to you.

Right now Nutrisystem is having a great offer, but even if you decide that Nutrisystem is not right for you right now, start measuring and weighing each and every morsel of food you eat - portion control is that important

Get a FREE JUMPSTART KIT! Plus!

Are you seeing to get rock hard “six-pack” ab muscles, or perhaps you are merely searching to firm up those flabby abs?
In the event that you are, then there are several various ways to achieve your goal. You may decide to go with the tested and correct (rather outdated) sit-ups and/or crunches.

For these you do not need to rush out and buy fancy exercise equipment; you only need some floor space and a towel . If you are really looking to ramp up your ab workout, then you might be interested in some of the many different types of ab equipment available for sale.

Here are two of the most popular pieces:
The Balance Ball. The balance ball is quite inexpensive. Not only is this a very good choice for your ab workout, it will also provide a good workout for the rest of your body as well. If you believe that balancing on a large ball might not develop your abdominal muscles, you really need to think twice! Once you sit or lay on the ball you have to keep those abdominal muscles contracted in order to keep your balance; and so the name-balance ball! Once you get the hang of this exercise you will start seeing more tone and definition.

Rowing machines. If you are looking at rowing machines, think about the price ranges of the different machines and exactly what features you are looking for. All rowing machines are basically the same in design; though some have more features than others, and are built to tone strengthen the abdominal muscles. On the other hand, they also give you the added advantage of working out your shoulders, forearms, biceps, triceps and legs (you are pushing back with your legs as your arms pull back too).

You will find that most of the “ab gadgets” for sale don’t work exactly as you see in the commercials. They often don’t tell you that in order to firm and flatten your belly you will also need to watch what you eat and add in additional exercises.

Instead of looking for “gadgets” to magically have a perfect six-pack appear it’s best to learn the right and non-hype way of getting a firmer, flatter belly and six-pack abs. You’ll also save a bit of money, since many “ab gadgets” can cost $100, $200 and some even more.

If you are honestly looking to get the best abs possible you should check out the #1 abs program here . Even if you are not quite ready now to get those abs in check for summer clothes, take advantage of their free tips and info. You’ll find that you’ll get more solid info from their freebies than you will get in many programs. Really.

Low carb diet are still the rage and although you’ll find many low carb food items in the freezer section of your grocery store you won’t want to rely on processed foods.

If you are planning on going on a low carb diet you may want to take a look at what is available for you to eat while on the diet before you start the diet. This way you will know if a low carb diet fits into your lifestyle and tastes.
Low Carb Diet Food List is quite popular in several diets such as Atkins, South Beach and Zone diet et al.

If you are one of those looking for Low Carb Diet Food List then you first need to understand as to how exactly a low quantity of carbohydrates is responsible for reduction in weight.

Low Carb Diet Food decreases the synthesis of insulin in the body and hence plays a vital role in weight reduction. This happens due to the fact that reduction of insulin synthesis forces the body to use stored fat and muscles for energy needs.

As you can see, going on a low carb diet for weight reduction is a very natural way for quick weight loss without spending a lot of time in gym. Of course, if you’re a kind of person who has no problem in handling weights in gym then you can very quickly lose weight by going on a low carb diet in addition to sweating out in gym.

Below you’ll find just a quick look over at what you can have while on a low carb diet.

Low Carb Diet Food List for Vegetables:

Vegetables are often encouraged in almost all the diets be they Atkins or South Beach or Zone and the reason for that is pretty simple - Most of the vegetables are low in carbohydrates except for a few which are rich in carb content.

A wide array of vegetables can be consumed while going on a low carb Diet. Some of these are lettuce, spinach, chard; beans, celery, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, mushrooms, cucumbers, all kinds of peppers, onions and all kinds of herbs.

The vegetables which need to be avoided are Beets, Carrots (on some diets), Corn, Parsnips, Peas, Plantains and Potatoes in all forms in addition to Winter Squashes.

Low Carb Diet Food List for Meat:

For lovers of Non vegetarian food, there’s even more good news that almost all the popular diets recommend meat and other protein rich food when it comes to going on a low carb diet.

Since meat is a rich source of protein, it is used extensively by the body for the formation of muscular tissues. There are very few Meat based foods which are not recommended in a low carbohydrate diet.

For example several organ meats are known to contain rich reserves of carbohydrates and hence Atkins recommends to limiting its quantity to a maximum of 4 Oz per day.

If you have made up your mind that the time has come to lose weight then you may well consider that you need, or could definitely benefit from, the assistance and help of other people that can be gained by signing up for a weight loss program. But just what sort of weight loss program will best meet your needs?

When it comes to selecting a weight loss program you have got to begin by asking yourself one or two questions of which the first is how much time you can devote to a weight loss program. If you lead a busy life and are constantly juggling your work, your family and your social life then you might well find it difficult to add an hour or two a week into your schedule to go to a local weight loss group meeting. In this case you may have to think about the alternative of signing up for an internet program that lets you login and participate whenever it suits you.

However, this takes us to the second question which is how much strength of will do you have. If you have the strength of will to succeed then you may well find that signing up for an internet program is fine.
But, if strength of will is not one of your strengths then it is highly likely that you will not stick with an internet program and will need the ‘face to face’ encouragement that you will get from other people at a local group and the discipline of having to report to a group leader.

Even when your lifestyle makes signing up for an internet program an attractive option, if you feel that you do not possess the necessary strength of will then you will definitely be better off juggling your schedule so that you can fit in membership of a local group.

The next important question is just how much you are prepared to spend on a weight loss program. Although it is possible to discover free programs both in your local area and on the internet but these tend to be difficult to find and are often not too good.

Most programs will charge some type of joining fee and will also normally ask you to pay an attendance fee for each meeting. Generally speaking, web-based programs tend to be a less expensive option but you will have to look around and find a program that comes within your budget. In addition, do not forget to look carefully at exactly what you are going to get for your money as programs do vary and it is often a case of ‘you get whatever you pay for’.

A final, but very important, question you must ask yourself is how embarrassed are you by your weight. In spite of the fact that there is really no good reason to be embarrassed the fact of the matter is that many people are ashamed of their body and are afraid to attend weight loss meetings. Here again, if this applies to you, then you may well consider that signing up for a web-based program is your best choice.

However, before you head off in this direction just pause and think about it carefully for a minute. Remember that in all probability the majority of people at your local weight loss group will be in the same boat and you may well find it helpful to talk to people in a similar position.

Joining a weight loss program can be extremely useful but you have got to look carefully at your own situation when deciding whether you would be better off choosing your local weight loss group or a web-based program.

Today we will take a quick look at this 2 pronged approach to permanent and healthy weight loss. This is the type of weight loss that you will be able live with year after year without yo-yoing your weight up and down.

After reading these simple steps you may want to look at each one in more detail by browsing through this site or another site of your choice. This post will just give you ideas to start with and then you can customize it to your lifestyle and needs.

ok, lets begin

1. One of the most important tips is to take time for walking.
I know that there has been controversy over the last few years about how many calories walking actually burns and whether or not it can burn enough fat to be considered a fat burning exercise. However, no matter how you look at it, the experts agree that walking is good for your health and as a weight baring exercise it is good for your bones.
And remember walking only requires 30 minutes each day.
Running or walking briskly for 30 minutes daily helps you in burning calories. It is also helpful in toning your leg muscles. When you walk, it boosts the metabolism to the level required for burning fat, therefore, leaving a long lasting effect.

2. Eat smaller portions at your meal. No matter what you are eating, take only half of a normal serving, or leave half on your plate. If you are in a restaurant, ask for a carryout container and put that half out of sight to use for your next meal. Eating only half portion sized meals will decrease the amount of fat number of calories you consume and your body will adjust to the smaller portion size quickly.

3. Getting a eight hours sleep every night helps in reducing unwanted fats.
Yes, new studies show that getting a full nights sleep can actually help with your fat burning furnace. You must have noticed that getting a full night of sleep that is undisturbed will give you more energy for the next day and has the added benefit of boosting your metabolism. When you are asleep and resting, your body is much more efficient at processing those calories than when you are simply being a couch potato in front of the television.

4. Take care of those nagging little items you keep putting off. Try to stay relaxed and contented. Staying under stress affects very negatively on the body and facilitates storage of fat in the cells. Therefore, by stopping the worry about tiny things in your daily life, you can simply and quickly reduce deposits of fat in your body. This is especially true of fat stored around the belly. Stress = belly fat. It is very hard to reduce stress in your life but if you can let go of some of the smaller things that bug you, you’ll be better off. Like they say “don’t sweat the small stuff.”

5. Try your best to drink enough fluids. Liquids are vital because they hydrate the cells in your body and help them in flushing the toxins (and fat) out of your system more efficiently. If you don’t drink enough fluids your metabolism can actually slow down and cause you to hold fat on to your body. Try to get your 8 glasses or water.

Following these guidelines will help you to get rid of unwanted body fat. Do not forget that a buddy who is also making these changes in his/her life will help to keep you accountable and make the experience more enjoyable.

Diet Plans - Will you be looking for a diet plan to start off 2010 with a bang?

Right now there are thousands of diet plans available for people who want to lose a few pounds and it can be often difficult to know just where you should to start.

Before you start to think about any diet plan however it is essential that you have a good understanding of just what dieting is all about.

Weight loss is a simple matter of controlling the food you eat and what your body does with that food. Stop for a second and re-read that sentence because it is absolutely fundamental to any weight loss plan and if you pay attention to this then you simply will shed those excess pounds.

The food that you consume is basically your body’s fuel supply and it gives you the energy you need to function. As long as you put just the right amount of fuel into your body for the work that it is doing then your weight will remain static but, if you put in more fuel than your body needs, then your body stores the excess food as fat and your weight will start to increase. Similarly, if you put in too little food your body will start to eat into its fat reserve to get the energy that it requires and your weight will start to drop.

Against this background you will see that it is possible to alter your weight by controlling the amount of fuel that you put into your body and the amount of work which your body does to burn up that fuel. Put another way, eat more and exercise less and your weight will increase or eat less and exercise more and you are on a diet program!

Many people feel that diets are similar to starvation. However, losing weight is not simply a question of eating less but is far more a question of eating the right type of food. Actually, it is feasible to lose weight by consuming more and not less food, replacing foods that are high in calories like fried breakfasts, shepherd’s pie, battered fish, peanut butter sandwiches and fried potatoes with low calorie foods like poached or grilled fish, rice, vegetables, pasta and a wide range of fruits.

Provided you pick your meals carefully, and there is a very wide range to pick from, you will not only be able to lower your intake of fuel, but you will also be able to fill yourself up sufficiently so that you do not feel hungry in between meals.

The second extremely important but frequently overlooked part of dieting is exercise. For the majority of us exercise paints a far from pretty image of a gym filled with already fit young men and women. However exercise comes in all sorts of different shapes and can frequently be very enjoyable.

The key to including exercise in a weight loss program is to start slowly and gradually build up as your fitness increases and your weight decreases. Additionally, you should choose several different forms of exercise or activity which you enjoy as there is little worse than finding yourself in a rut and doing the same exercises day after day. This will invariably result in boredom and in next to no time you will in all probability give up exercising altogether. Remember also that the purpose here is simply to increase your activity level so that you burn off excessive calories in support of your diet plan.

Dieting is not some mystical process the key to which is hidden in a vault with a key and a six digit combination lock. Nor is it an activity on the scale of skiing to the South Pole. In fact it is a fairly simple process of controlling your food intake and your activity level and can be great fun.

Probably the most important tip is to think about which diet plan fits into your work or school schedule, your budget and your food tastes.

Don’t jump right in to the first diet plan that you see. Look at several and then picture yourself and your family living with this plan for several months or possible for life.
Is it doable?
Is is a type of diet plan that you can occasionally go off of without feeling guilty.
Can you see yourself ending 2010 healthy, vibrant and slender?
If the answer is yes, then that diet plan is right for you.

Have you ever used a sauna? If you are like most of us the answer is yes.

Saunas are all the rage these days – the hottest ticket lose-weight-without-the-work luxury item. And if you’ve ever spent a moment in one, you know they feel great! But do they work? In a word: yes. But read on for the fine print.

Saunas have been used by advanced cultures throughout the world for thousands of years for its health benefits. From Scandinavia to ancient Rome to Native North American’s, sweating has been used as a way to improve mental and physical health alike.

Sitting in a sauna relieve stress by helping you to relax. The heat is soothing, and makes it easy for us to momentarily shed our mental baggage relish in the moment. Shedding emotional baggage is one of the oft-overlooked ways to shed baggage of the more physical sort.

Relieving stress makes it easier to avoid those emotional triggers that cause us to succumb to temptations and consume our usual comfort foods.
The improvement to your state of mind will also help raise your mood, giving you more optimism and energy to face your life and all its incumbent challenges, not least of which is the challenge of sticking with your chosen weight management program.

A calmer mind and a better mood can only help you live an active and productive life, one so satisfying that you’re inspired to be as good and loving to yourself as you can possibly be.

In concord with relieving stress, a sauna helps lower blood pressure and aids in digestion, both of which make it easier for the body to maximize the nutritional benefits of the food you eat, processing and absorbing more of the nutrients and eliminating less of them as waste.
It should be noted that while you are in the sauna your blood pressure will rise so do not use one if you have high blood pressure.

The benefits of saunas in losing weight don’t stop at stress relief. In a hot, steamy sauna, the body produces sweat, an activity that requires the burning of calories. That’s right: sweating burns calories.

Another way sweating helps burn calories is by raising the heart rate. The steam and hot temperatures of a sauna prompt the heart to pump a bit faster in order to distribute more blood to all the body’s capillaries, giving the effect of a small cardiovascular workout. And as we all know, an increased heart rate burns more calories.

So yes, you can literally lose weight ( water weight) instantly just by sitting in a nice, hot sauna.

Saunas additionally benefit your health by helping boost your immune system. In a sauna, the body temperature raises to the point where the body is fooled into believing it has a fever. Upon making that realization, the body begins fighting off whatever caused the perceived illness, thereby giving your immune system a safe and healthy little boost.

Along the same lines, saunas also effectively help rid the body of harmful toxins, like sodium, lead, mercury, and sulphuric acid.

The one caution we offer about using saunas to lose weight, however, is that weight loss from dehydration (water weight-loss) must be regained. A considerable weight loss from sweating is not a healthy or sustainable weight loss. Drinking water should always be a part of a healthy session in a sauna – before, during, and after,

Instead of rushing to the scale after each session in the sauna to see how much you’ve lost, just allow the gradual and incremental weight loss from regular healthy and properly hydrated use of a sauna over time.

Two more things to remember

1. The weight loss that results from a sauna is water weight loss and you will regain it as soon as you drink water. So don’t look at a sauna as a way of losing weight but as a way of relaxing (so that you will be less stressed and will eat less “comfort foods”), and when you use a sauna you are taking care of yourself. Once you get in the habit of being good to yourself you will find that you will want to eat less junk food.

2. Since a sauna will raise your temperature, increase your hear rate and eliminate water from your body be sure to get the ok from your health care practitioner before using a sauna. If you take certain medications, or have any medical conditions (even being pregnant) you should not use a sauna. So again- be sure to check with your doctor first.

Crash and Burn: Why Crash Diets Don’t Work

This article addresses a simple, unavoidable, and in cases of extreme painful fact, that being: why crash diets don’t work.

Now before we get to that - there is one thing that may interest you more than just knowing that your weight will return after a crash diet - and that is…..crash diets can show up on your face. Not just with dull skin but science is now showing that going on crash diets even for a short time can lead to additional lines & wrinkles on your face. So before you even think about a crash diet and how unhealthy they are ask yourself if your short term weight loss is worth having added wrinkles later on in life.

Despite what bright, loud, attention-grabbing ads from the TV to the magazine racks tout about so many pounds lost in so many days, the weight lost usually comes back in no time at all.

Weight lost quickly is most often water and carbohydrate (glycogen) loss, not fat. The body’s interpretation of this water and carbohydrate loss is that you are starving, and therefore it slows down its metabolic rate, in effect to help you live longer on less energy.

When you do ultimately start eating again (as, by definition, all crash diets end) the body believes the food emergency is over and determines its next best way to serve your longevity is to store this food you’re putting into it in case such a food emergency should arise again.

To put it another way, the effect of a crash diet is to keep the body always in a crisis management mode, rather than help sustain a healthy body weight. This in itself is bad enough, but it gets worse.

Glycogen loss is muscle loss, and since muscles are a critical part of maintaining an active metabolism, with less muscle, our bodies burn less calories. And when we burn less calories, we gain more weight.

To lose weight for good, lose weight slowly. Try to keep it down to only a pound or two each week. It may not feed your need for immediate gratification, but you can keep yourself excited and committed to the process by knowing that the results you achieve will be lasting.

To lose 1 pound of weight, equal to about 3,500 calories, find a way to cut out 250 calories from each day’s diet and find a way to burn 250 calories each day in exercise. That’s 500 calories per day: half in diet, half via exercise. The result: 1 pound shed each week. Double the formula for 2 pounds per week. But stop there.

If you do this, you’ll notice the program you set for yourself is actually quite reasonable and easy to stick to. Discipline isn’t hard when the steps you’re disciplining yourself to take are practical and realistic.

Take the concept of the crash diet out of your vocabulary and replace it with a far easier, more enjoyable, and more endearingly effective form of weight loss: behavior modification.

Simple shifts in one or two behaviors can have dramatic and lasting effects on your weight. Actually just making 1 change every week can make a big difference to lasting weight loss.

Crash diets achieve false and short term results. They lead to frustration, disappointment, and despair. And in creating a feedback loop of a chronic stress-response in the body, can even be deemed dangerous.
Stay away from them, for your own good. And when you look in the mirror look for lines and wrinkles and ask yourself if you really want more.

Almost monthly you read the results of another fitness study. Each one contradicts each other, so it’s no wonder that we are not sure if it’s worth working out for a few minutes here or there, if cardio is indeed way over hyped or if the newest fad is just a waste of time.

Right now television and car are blamed more and more for our sedentary habits. It puts a negative light our technological way of life and subtly hints that our ancestors, who never had it this good, really never had it so good. Television and automobiles have seduced us into a pathetic state of physical laziness.

If naïveté were tax-deductible, such philosophers would be totally tax-exempt. Automation has been made the hapless scapegoat of our poor condition when, in fact, it is the fault of the people who use them, not of the appliances themselves.

What television set ever turned itself on, or what car ever drove down to the corner drugstore for a tube of toothpaste? Why blame a car? It takes a human to get it going!

This gets at the root of another misconception—namely, that the emphasis on fitness should be for children. Here the axiom is that fit children grow up to be fit adults (and who has proven this?). So for every child in shape there potentially will in time be a fit adult—a one-for-one proposition. Mathematically it is more profitable to concentrate on the grownups.

Children inherently are hero worshipers. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and children mimic the people they respect the most. If a boy sees his revered father come home from the office, slump into a chair, and turn on television, it is scarcely surprising that the son follows suit—to the exclusion of physical activity.

But let there be a father in the neighborhood who is a good sport, who keeps trim, and who is fit—watch a whole gang of kids crowd around and admire and exercise. The good influence of sports idolatry on boys in particular is seen in Little Leagues where little tykes make incredible plays in imitation of their big-league heroes. If one child is in shape, one child is fit.

If one adult is physically fit, a dozen or more children soon may be.

Another old wives’ tale involves the housewife herself. She is told she cannot become fit what with her washer, drier, automatic dishwasher, vacuum cleaner, electric floor polisher, and so forth. After all, in the good old days these chores were done by hand. True, but they were done by the maid, not necessarily by the housewife. The husband and children also helped.

She is also criticized because she uses the car too much. But home deliveries from the local market are almost a thing of the past. And with the movement to outer suburbia, it is a long walk to the shopping center. Leave the housewife alone—she gets plenty of exercise cleaning the house, chasing the children, and tending the garden.

Finally, there is a popular myth which says, “Americans must be told why they should be in shape if national fitness is to be achieved.” In fact, millions have been spent telling us why.

The problem is not that simple. Many people are not in shape, not because they are against fitness or because they do not know why fitness is desirable, but because they have not been given practical suggestions on the hows of fitness.

No one denies that Americans are in poor shape. If you’re not sure which way to turn when it comes to fitness remember this —- just get up and move your body.
Move as often as possible and for as long as possible.
Like sports –then play don’t watch.
Like using a treadmill — great –use it every day.
Just move — just move.

Are smoothies good for weight loss?

Many folks have started drinking smoothies as a method to lose weight and improve their health. And if you do it right, smoothies can help you lose weight, but you have to drink the right kind of smoothies. If you drink the wrong kind, you can actually gain weight and be left wondering why.

A smoothie weight loss program is usually made up of a plan that has you replacing your regular meals with low calorie / high nutrition smoothies. You can either replace all your meals with smoothies or you can substitute one or two of your meals each day with smoothies. If you do the second method, you will usually replace breakfast and lunch with a smoothie and then eat a healthy low calorie sensible dinner.

There are many different types of smoothies you can make that will help you lose weight. You can make smoothies that only contain fruit. You can drink smoothies that are a combination of fruits and vegetables. Another way you can make a smoothie is to add protein powder to your mix.

You may have seen a Vita Mix commercial or attended a live presentation at your local store where they blend up a wide variety of fruits and vegetables and give you a sample to taste. You may have been surprised at hose delicious freshly blended fruit and vegetable combinations can be.

People who drink a lot of smoothies that contain fresh fruits and vegetables are supplementing their diet in a marvelous way with loads of nutritious enzymes, vitamins and minerals that their bodies need to stay healthy and fight off disease and illness. Smoothie drinkers often comment that they love that they are enjoying something that tastes so good while also getting the recommended daily allotments of fruits and veggies in their diet. Smoothies just make it so easy to improve your intake of nutritious low calorie healthy foods.

Smoothies are also a great on-the-go meal for our very busy lives. You can easily whip up a smoothie and take it in your car to drink on the way to work. You can also pre-make smoothies to drink for lunch. Just keep them in a cooler or in a thermos and shake them up well just before you drink them.

There is a reason why Jamba Juice has become so popular. Folks are learning just nutritious and delicious smoothies can be. And how easy they facilitate weight loss. Be forewarned though, you can probably make a healthier smoothie at home than what you can get at a Jamba Juice. Quite often smoothie stores will add sugar-sweetened fruit to your smoothies which is not necessary and will just add a lot of extra calories that you do not need or want. If you make your smoothies at home you control the ingredients and ensure that you are not getting added empty calories.

Have you ever looked at someone that you admired at work and watched what type of food they ate?

Many people who succeed in business eat for both their body type and also for the type of job that they have.

From now on you would be glad to know there is a way to improve your job performances and help you along your journey to achieve professional success, while keeping your body at it’s perfect body weight.

A day of your life should be divided into different sections and make sure that each section gets the proper nutrition to do the tasks that you have at hand. It doesn’t matter if you work form 9 AM to 5 PM or if you work all night.

Long run persons
If you are a “long run person”, you are on your feet the entire day so the amount of physical exercise that you body receives is great. Your body needs energy from morning till evening. You must keep your sugar level stable with the help of complex carbs and proteins. Be sure to eat often (small servings - but at 1-2 hour intervals) this way you will have energy all day and won’t find yourself pigging out all night.

Night stars
If you are a “night star” your work hours keep until the first morning hours and often go to work in the dark and come home from work before sunsrise.
You need food for feeling ok and happy, combating depression that can often occur during nights. Vitamin B1 is the one that will keep you smiling all night. A night worker will often find themselves eating more sugar than day workers so if you feel tempted be sure to have plenty fruit on hand. A great snack is frozen grapes and chilled melon. If you don’t have a refrigerator or freezer at work bring frozen fruits to work and be sure to have a good insulated lunch box and use one of the freeze packs to keep your fruit icy cold.

Office angel
If you are an “office angel” then you are performing intense mental activities and a low physical effort. Your body needs “intelligent” food, that would give energy to the brain and nerves, that means foods rich in vitamins B and C and protein. If you are not a meat eater, be sure to have plenty of tofu or your choice of protein on hand. Cheese, tuna, chicken and yogurt are good foods for the rest of us.

No matter what your job is, you should have always enough needed energy to perform it. it well, you won’t get fat, but you have to eat as much as you need in order not to feel hungry while at work. That will clearly affect your performances.

What happens if you have an occasion coming up and need a fast weight loss program to enable you to drop just a few pounds, so you can fit into that favorite dress or suit?

The first thing to do is look around and see what kinds of programs offer you the ability to drop the pounds quickly. The second thing to do is make sure that you do not risk your health to drop a few pounds. Most of the diets designed for losing weight quickly are not for long term use.

One example of this is the cabbage soup diet. This diet, with its thirty year history, is ok for those who want that quick pound drop or 2. This diet consists of eating cabbage soup all day, every day. You can eat as much of it as you want as often as you want.

The reason is that cabbage, like the other things put into it, are referred to as negative calorie foods because they have almost no calories while being high in fiber. You can also cut into this soup some celery, mushrooms, peppers and onions with the cabbage.

Spices can be added as preferred. Each day you get to add something little you can eat that day. It might be fruit or vegetables and by the end of the seven days you get to add a little beef. You drink a lot of water daily. The diet recommends a minimum of ten glasses. At the end of a week you should have lost a few pounds. Do not continue this diet after seven days as it is not healthy to do so.

Sometimes people take drastic measures when they are desperately looking for a fast weight loss solution. These diets are not necessarily that healthiest method to drop the pounds and anyone trying them should make sure they have no health issues that might be stressed by this action. One diet, the master cleanse, is a drastic diet choice that lasts for only ten days. The dieter lives on lemon juice, fresh squeezed only, maple syrup, cayenne pepper and water. Those are the only things they are allowed to consume.

Some people use it longer though that should only be with caution. This diet has been used by celebrities with great success. Surprisingly it is not the common fad diet that is around for a few years and then forgotten. This diet has its origins in the 1940s where it was invented by a nutritionist.
The most important thing to remember when you try any diet, whether you are looking for a limited fast loss or want to take off a lot of weight knowing it will take more time, is that your health must come first. So, be careful when you try a fast weight loss program that you make sure there are not health risks.

You must also remember that before you try any of these quick or rapid weight loss diets you should consult a doctor as they can be very dangerous if you have an underlying heath issue that you may not be aware of.

What some dieters prefer is to substitute one meal a day for a hearty bowl of soup. Soup in general (not creamy soup) is low in calories, low in fat and many newer soups are high in fiber. It makes a good all round meal and with each serving being under 200 calories (many just 110) its a good way to get filled up while keeping calories low.

Although we all are different from one another, we often have a few common traits that we can relate to. With dieting there are several, however there is one simple one that most of us share and it often leads to our motivation in our diet.

If you are currently trying to lose weight or if you have ever gone on a diet then you will definitely be able to relate to what you’re about to read.

Think about a typical day on a diet. You start off your day strong - usually. You wake up in the morning ready to finally get your weight loss plan going. You are raring to go and you probably eat a healthy low-calorie breakfast. You may even go get some exercise.

Everything seems to be going right and you’re feeling very hopeful that this time your diet will work and you will lose the weight you want to lose.

Then what happens?

Did you know that most diets tend to break down or fall apart in the middle to late afternoon? Is that what usually happens to you?

There have been scientific studies conducted on brain waves that show that often around 3 to 4 PM your body enters a time that researchers have called the “breaking point.” This is a time when your brain waves slow down and your body transitions into a place where it wants to be in a recuperating phase of rest or sleep. This causes your body to experience one of your lowest energy points of your waking hours.

During this phase you may feel less alert, very fatigued, and possibly like you need a nap. You know, that feeling of sluggishness near the end of your workday where it gets more hard to think clearly and focus to get your work done.

This low energy time of day is the exact time that a huge percentage of dieters fall off the diet wagon and they reach for food to try to regain energy to get themselves through the rest of their day. Unfortunately these quite often empty calories (usually found in the vending machine) don’t even give you energy — eating simply occupies your brain with action and falsely helps you feel like you have more energy. Or you may get more energy for a brief moment and then drop down into even deeper sluggishness.

A better plan (and one that would help you stick with your new healthy diet) is to be very aware that these slower phases occur in your body and brain every day — then make a plan to give yourself what you REALLY need — rather than empty calories — when those sluggish times of low energy hit you.

So what do you really need? Your body really needs a break if at all possible. Grab a quick 20 minute nap or “rest break” if your schedule and environment allow it. You will feel a lot better if you can give your body to rest it wants. That short rest will rejuvenate you for the remainder of the day.

If you can’t take a quick nap, then at least take a small break. Even a five-minute break with a change of pace — away from your desk if possible — where you do some light stretching, take a short walk, grab some fresh air outside and reconnect to your body, your mind, and YOU.

Avoid using food to push yourself through your day. Listen to your body and give it food only when it is hungry and give your body rest when it needs rest. Get in touch with what you REALLY need and you will reach your health and weight loss goals.
