Metabolism the simple process of converting food to energy can be increased by adding exercise into your life. Yes, we all know this but have you ever really understood the process and why it works?

If you don’t care about the hows and why’s then just skip this article as you will probably become bored. However, if you want to know why there is a connection between exercise and metabolism so that you can learn how to increase your metabolism - here is all the information and I think that once you understand, you’ll be more apt to keep fitness in your life.

Here it goes

Metabolism is the two-way process of synthesizing complex living tissue from simple nonliving foods and then the breakdown of these living tissues into simpler substances.

The building-up process is called constructive metabolism or anabolism. The breaking down of living tissues to fuel and waste products is known as destructive metabolism or catabolism. In the healthy adult who has attained his maximal growth, anabolism and catabolism proceed at equal rates, although of course in opposite directions. Thus weight remains steady.

In the resting state, metabolism proceeds slowly at a basal or minimal rate (”basal metabolic rate” or BMR) since there are no demands on the body other than to remain alive. But during exercise energy requirements increase and it is obvious that metabolism must accelerate in order to provide the extra fuel or calories necessary to sustain the added work load.

The principle sources of readily available calories in large quantities are glucose and fatty acids. End products of their metabolism are carbon dioxide and water, both of which readily escape via the lungs. Except in exercise sustained for several hours, almost no protein is burned. This is fortunate. The end products of protein breakdown cannot find egress via the lungs but must be excreted by the kidneys. Since the kidneys shut down during exercise, a harmful accumulation of acid would result if protein were a significant fuel.

The Function Of Sweat
Sweating is useful chiefly as a means of losing heat. Because the human organism is only partly efficient, the metabolism of glucose and fatty acids yields work plus heat.

If the body were completely efficient, work and no heat would result. Thus exercise produces an increase in body temperature. After one to two hours of sustained activity, rectal temperatures of 101-103 degrees Fahrenheit are to be expected.

Sweat is an important defense against disastrous rises in temperature which may result in heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Believe it or not, the fit subject sweats better!

In a recent experiment untrained subjects were exercised in a hot environment daily. At the outset they perspired moderately and lost copious amounts of salt. In a few days their sweat glands became acclimatized. They perspired more to get rid of more heat and cut back on salt losses to avoid the hazards of salt depletion.

Training of the mind is as inevitable as training of the body in the fit individual. The sportsman disciplines himself to ignore fatigue and to give forth with his best effort.

Which ever exercise program that you want to begin with remember to start off slow and try avoiding working out during the heat of the day.

What’s the best way to lose weight? Lets make it enjoyable

So many things in our lives are complicated. Why make losing weight one of them?
It can be easier and more enjoyable than you think. Most of the time you just have to watch what you let into your body and how you use your body.

What you put into your body: You don’t have to do heavy exercise, starve yourself, count calories or take dangerous pills. What your body really needs are the types and quantities of foods it was made to eat.

You’ll be pretty safe if you avoid processed, high sugar, high fat foods and cut down on your portion sizes. You don’t have to make a science out of it. Think moderation – too much dieting doesn’t work any better than too many calories. Play it safe and avoid extremes.

How you use your body: Moderation is just as important for exercise as it is for food. If you feel a calling to be an athlete, then by all means go for it. Physical skills are fun to use, rewarding in their own right.

But if you’re trying to burn off calories, remember that it takes a lot longer to burn calories off through exercise than it does to consume them in the first place. For weight control, you will get most of the benefits from easy to moderate activity together with eating right. Keep your exercise fun and easy-going, unless you are aiming for more than just losing weight.

Easy is really the key idea for the mental side, too. This is where you can get the most from making thins simple.

Most of us approach things like losing weight as if they were huge, difficult, and hard to succeed at. But how easy it is to gain the weight in the first place! It takes years of sustained effort, and we don’t even notice that we’re doing it.

That’s because it is enjoyable (at the time). Why not make losing weight enjoyable too? Make it rewarding in its own right. Make it a new interest or hobby to explore Mediterranean or other cuisines. Enjoy the new skills of being able to glance at a bunch of ingredients and know which ones will be delicious yet healthy. Make a game out of noticing your body changing and your well-being improving.

Thoroughly enjoy the process, and also imagine yourself after the diet has already worked, thinking back over how you did it. Nice, huh?

So forget about all the calorie tables and portion calculations, along with the dreadful discipline and deprivation.
Make it enjoyable and give yourself something to look forward to. You will thank yourself for it.
Simple diets and exercise plans will also take less effort.

Are you familiar with Caralluma for weight loss?

Caralluma looks like it’s on it’s way to becoming the next weight loss star, just like Hoodia was a few years ago.

What You Need to Know About Caralluma Fimbriata

Caralluma fimbriata is a succulent plant, in the cactus family, that has been used as a natural appetite suppressant in India for centuries. It is used to suppress hunger and appetite, and enhance endurance throughout India.

Caralluma fimbriata is cooked as a vegetable, used in preserves like chutneys and pickles, or it’s eaten raw.
Caralluma fimbriata is believed to block the activity of several enzymes, which then blocks the formation of fat, forcing fat reserves to be burned.

Caralluma fimbriata is also believed to have an effect on the appetite control mechanism of the brain.

Ayurvedic (traditional Indian medicine) experts have noted that there are no adverse effects when using Caralluma fimbriata, and the plant has no known toxicity. A patented, tested extract of Caralluma fimbriata has been developed and standardized by a company called Gencor.

Known as “Slimaluma,” the extract delivers the plant in a concentrated form.
One of the only products available in the U.S. that uses the Slimaluma formula is Country Life’s GenaSlim supplement, which combines the patented Slimaluma extract of Caralluma fimbriata with EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate) from green tea. Together they reportedly have a synergistic effect on appetite control and weight loss.

SourcesKhan B, et. al. “Hypogylcemic activity of aqueous extract of some indigenous plants.” Pak J Pharm Sci., 2005 Jan;18(1):62-4.

I personally have not tried Caralluma or Caralluma Burn yet, so I can only pass along this information as I have read it or have heard in forums. As with any over the counter product I always suggest that you do your own research and due diligence and also discuss it with your health care provider.

To learn more about Caralluma just click the above link or banner below.
I believe that in the next 6 months you’ll start seeing an explosion of forum and chat room talk about this plant.

With all the daily stress in our life, we need time to release the stress and to have fun.

Exhausting as it sounds, a rugged workout can be exhilarating. Working up a lather, shaking out the kinks, and getting out of breath can be addicting. Fitness should not be a deadly serious matter—it should be a kick!

There are benefits of fitness, to be sure. These benefits are “extras”. These are not reasons why people keep fit. These are bonuses for people who exercise for fun and fitness.

Tension is the businessman’s heaviest burden. Deadlines, promotion, competition, improvement, insecurity, and worry are part of our society. No wonder the executive has difficulty relaxing. Tight nerves and tense muscles are the usual rather than the exception. Fitness is one way out. No one can relax by being ordered to do so. Keyed-up nerves and muscles do not respond to talk. Nerves and muscles can be re-educated. Relaxing habits can be substituted for bad habits.

How To Relax
The way to relax is to keep the mind clear but the body very active. Translated, this means: exercise vigorously. Having non relaxed energetically for thirty minutes, no one needs to be told to relax. He has no choice —he is exhausted—he has to relax. Ask anyone what is the best part of his workout. It is taking a shower afterward— naturally!

A workout inescapably prepares one for relaxation. During a workout it is impossible to be concerned about anything other than the task at hand. One’s every thought and effort is concentrated on the workout.
Try preparing a report to the boss while watching your tennis adversary’s cannonball serve go streaking past.
Try adding up all your debts while giving the bowling ball a little body English toward a remote tenpin. Try thinking about anything while exercising except exercising. It cannot be done! Your mind is off your problems—and that is good.

After the workout, with physically tired muscles, with the glow of physical satisfaction, and with the refreshing relief of a warm shower, relaxation is inevitable. And in a few weeks nerves and muscles once again have learned the rewarding art of relaxation.

Dangers Of Obesity
Obesity, which is one of the top reasons of premature death, is rare among those who exercise regularly.
Obese people have a greater chance to develop heart disease, cancer, kidney illnesses, hypertension, diabetes, arthritis, and other degenerative disorders. While fitness per se apparently does not lengthen life, obesity certainly shortens it. There are no vaccinations or antibiotics which protect you from these illnesses. But fitness which abolishes obesity provides statistical immunization

Why Make Fitness Fun?
Although we all know that fitness is good for us and makes us feel good, if it’s a chore then we will put it off as much as possible. However, if you choose a fitness routine that you enjoy and but is physically demanding, your more likely to stick with it and actually look forward to your workouts.

Think about what type of exercises you like to do and what sports you enjoy partaking in. Then try to incorporate those into your daily life.

Soon you’ll notice that your not as tired as you are now, you sleep better, you’ll feel less stress, you’ll get a fit looking body and you’ll also notice that daily tasks don’t seem as annoying. You’ll have a better lookout about life and you’ll also notice that your skin has an inner glow - you’ll probably even notice that sex is more fun.

If you, like so many other people, are looking to lose weight, you might be a little bit bewildered as where to begin.

There is a lot to remember when you start thinking about losing weight, but the good news is that there is a wide amount of information available to you. Along with staying active and getting some exercise, weight loss meals are something that you should be thinking about. A large part of losing weight is eating right, but what does that mean for you?

One of the first things that you should consider is your blood sugar stability.

Essentially, whenever you consume carbohydrates, your glucose levels will rise and your pancreas releases insulin, a hormone that will transport the amino acids into your muscles for growth and energy. The insulin essentially clears out the glucose.

The issue is that when you eat too many carbohydrates, your body will essentially overcompensate and create too much insulin, which can result in glucose getting cleared from your body before you are ready to have that happen.

This condition is known as hypoglycemia and can create food cravings, weakness, dizziness, mood swings and a low level of burnout. You will also be subjected to excessive hunger and cravings for specifically junk foods.

When you put together a weight loss meal plan, there are several things that you need to keep in mind. First, remember to keep simple carbohydrates low when it comes to your diet.

If a food contains a lot of sugar and white flour, avoid it or try not to have it at all. Instead, if you have a sweet tooth, replace it with natural sugars found in fruit. Cheese, although it is high in calories, can also help you keep your carbohydrate count down. When eaten in moderation, like all food should be, you’ll find that natural sugars are help to satify that sweet tooth while actually being good for you..

When you are planning a weight loss meal plan, try combining carbohydrates with proteins or fats. This is a great way to avoid hypoglycemia as well as eat a balanced diet. Make sure you get plenty of fiber (whole grains and veggies) and combine lean meats into your diet.

One thing that you should remember is that you should eat small meals but to avoid any hunger pangs you might feel, you should eat them often.

Some people eat four or five very small meals a day; this keeps your metabolism working and it also keeps your energy high, which is very important. Of course, this will require planning on your part. Avoid large meals that will make you feel sluggish and instead plan for small meals that will keep you up and energetic.

There are lots of ways to eat healthy, but planning a weight loss meal plan is one of the best ways to improve your lifestyle for the better!

Coffee and tea can never make you fat.

Your reducing diet allows you to consume them, if you wish, until you splash when you walk. But note that this sky’s-the-limit attitude applies only to black coffee or clear tea. Drunk in this form, these comforting drinks rate a flat zero for calories. Add cream and sugar, however, and the calories go spiraling upward. It’s the fixin’s that make you fat.

One teaspoon of sugar and two tablespoons of coffee cream give a cup of coffee a rating of 85 calories—largely fat calories, exactly the type the reducer needs least.

Many a sparkling-eyed and clear-headed coffee drinker thinks nothing of consuming five or six cups a day. The cream and sugar in these cups of coffee represent about an even trade for the calories where you can eat your pie à la mode. This is a case where you can eat your pie and have your coffee too, if you take it black.

Many of us have our own ideas about black coffee, though, so a compromise is in order. Instead of taking your coffee straight, dilute it fifty-fifty with fat-free or low fat milk. You are entitled to the milk in your reducing diet, so your calorie total will be unaffected. Make your black coffee a little stronger if the dilution is too weak for your taste. The calcium in the milk may even act as a nerve-pacifier, if you haven’t been getting enough of this vital mineral. The same principle of milk dilution applies to tea.

Children have taste buds sensitive to sweets not only in their tongues but in their cheeks and throats. As we grow older these buds diminish and it requires a larger amount of sugar to give us the same sweet sensation. Of course not everybody knows this, but now you do.

Five or six teaspoons of sugar a day in the same number of cups of coffee gives you a minimum of 100 calories of pure carbohydrate—no protein, no minerals, no vitamins.

Excessive pure sugar is almost certain to unbalance the diet. Artificial sweetener will usually sweeten a cup of coffee to satisfy the most sugar-hungry. If you prefer not to use artificial sweeteners, gradually start giving up on the sugar. If you do it slowly, you won’t miss it as much.

In the case of tea, a quarter of lemon or orange is an excellent substitute for sugar. The fruit juice gives a tang to the drink and bestows a respectable amount of Vitamin C.

Speaking of juice, instead of drinking juice eat the fruit instead. You will consume less calories, it will take longer for you to eat, you’ll receive additional nutrients which may be lacking in the juice and the fiber in whole fruit will help your stomach feel satisfied.

Some of us can consume over 1,000 calories a day of liquid calories (think Starbucks gourmet coffee, a few cans of regular soda or a couple of cocktails) and liquid calories do not satisfy our hunger. Your much better off saving that 1,000 calories for food you can chew.

The calories from cocktails can add up fast. It takes about 1 and 1/2 hours to burn off the calories from 1 average alcoholic drink. Often when we go out we will have 2 or 3 drinks, so now your talking about 4 hours to burn this off.

Alcoholic drinks in addition to adding calories to your diet, the drinks don’t offer any nutrition, don’t fill you up and they often lower your will power and you will find yourself snacking more than you should.

How many times have you had a few drinks and not snack on chips, peanuts and other salty snacks. So now, in addition to the calories from your drink, you have the extra calories from the snacks.

Alcohol also increases your appetite, and that is why when you go out, have a few drinks, your more apt to go out for breakfast or if you are having a few drinks with your dinner, your more likely to eat more.

One way that you can cut down on your cocktail calories is to drink one glass of diet soda or water alternating between your cocktail and your diet soda. This will also help you drink less, while still having a glass in your hand.

Do you drink wine? Why not have a wine spritzer? In a wine glass you have 1 ounce of wine and 4 to 5 ounces of club soda, diet soda or water.

Forbes.com has a listing of the 10 most fattening cocktails that you can see here

Before having your next cocktail think about the calories first. Many times once you realize how many calories you’ll be taking in and you’ll often find that you’ll drink less.

Are you hungry because you’re fat, or are you fat because you’re hungry?

This is no chicken-or-the-egg question. To some degree, at least, you are hungry because you’re fat. You have more body area and that means greater surface to radiate heat and call for calories.

That being the case, foods which satisfy your hunger fastest will help you to cut down on your calories. Nutritionists call the hunger-satisfying properties of foods “satiety value.” Satisfying foods are those that remain longest in the stomach and small intestine, demanding the most vigorous attention from your digestive system.

Meat is the most satisfying of all foods and keeps you full longer than simple carbs.

Milk ranks next to meat in satiety value; whole milk is more satisfying than skim milk.
Fish is slightly less satisfying than meat because usually it contains less fat.
Eggs vary according to preparation.
Green vegetables and bread are low in satiety value. Oddly, bread becomes even less satisfying when toasted.

Fats are high in satiety value; hence moderate reducing diets often allow more fats than carbohydrates to help keep your stomach satisfied.
Aside from the satisfying effects of food, there are other ways of putting a check rein on your appetite.

Here are ten ways of cracking down and letting your appetite know who’s boss:

1. Stop eating while you’re still a little hungry. For reasons that are not fully understood, persons who tend to put on weight do not receive the “full up” signal
from their meals as promptly as they should. Consequently they go on eating after hunger is satisfied. Stop eating just a little earlier than you usually do and you will be surprised, within a few minutes, to discover that appetite has really been appeased.

2. Revise your thought process. A lot of people put on weight because, having few things that interest them, they turn to nibbling as a socially entertaining way of killing time. Keep busy at something else and watch your yen for eating fall within normal limits.

3. Use foods that require vigorous chewing. The first organs of digestion are the teeth. Meat, crisp celery, raw carrots—all of these call for vigorous chewing action that helps satisfy your appetite.

4. Don’t wash food down with water. The only valid objection to drinking water with meals is that you may wash down lumpy masses of half-chewed food and thus unconsciously step up your intake.

5. Don’t be tricked by fancy foods. An ice cream sundae topped off by nuts and whipped cream can tempt any body’s appetite. If you keep out of the way of such temptations, however, you will find that your appetite is just as happy as a baby who has never heard about lollipops.

6. Keep count on calories. A rough idea of calorie values is all you need to tone down a rambunctious appetite considerably. It’s a lot easier to say “I’ll take an orange” when you know there are 450 calories in a husky slab of mince pie and only 80 in an orange. Plus the orange will keep your stomach full longer and takes longer to eat.

7. Skip the excuses. If you blame your overweight on heredity or glands, get a check up.
If you feel that you can’t say “no” to the hostess who urges a second helping on you, for risk of hurting her feelings, remember that she probably is insistent because of a high sense of hospitality, and secretly may be thinking how nice it would be to have some leftovers for tomorrow’s dinner.

8. Put a fruit bowl on the coffee table instead of a box of chocolates. Eating between meals isn’t bad; it’s good —provided you choose a piece of fruit or a glass of milk instead of concentrated candies and pastries, and don’t exceed your calorie limits.

9. Don’t tease your appetite with alcohol. We aren’t saying you shouldn’t drink. But if you drink, remember that alcohol will increase your appetite and you’ll find yourself snacking on chips instead of healthy foods.

10. Don’t go without breakfast. Lots of us kid ourselves that we’re reducing because we’re rushed or sleepy in the morning and coast along on a cup of coffee. Studies have proven that those who eat a healthy breakfast actually consume less calories during the day, then those who skip breakfast.

The article below is a bit controversial. It talks about a daily calorie intake of 1,000. Personally I don’t believe that going under 1,200 a day is a healthy way to diet.

However, I posted this article so that you can see the mathematics behind calculating what calories you take in compared to the calories that you burn and what the resulting weight loss would be. It also helps you look at losing ounces of fat and not concentrating on pounds as most scales don’t show ounces so if you scale doesn’t move it doesn’t mean that you are not losing weight, you may have lost several ounces - your scale just won’t show it.

Every ounce of fat stored in your body represents about 250 calories.

If you eat only 1,000 calories per day, but actually burn 2,480, there is a difference of 1,480 calories that must come from your fat warehouse. Divide these 1,480 calories by 250 (the number of calories per ounce of body fat) and you get the figure 5.9—roughly, 6 ounces of fat that you can expect to lose per day on a 1,000-calorie diet.

You want to lose 25 pounds, or 400 ounces. Losing 6 ounces per day on a 1,000-calorie diet, you will require just about two months to reach your goal. After that, you can graduate to your maintenance diet (2,480 calories example) and be rid of fat worries evermore.

This is intended purely as a rough guide in case you don’t want to bother your head with arithmetic to figure out your own expectancy along the lines given above.

It represents actual fat loss—the total weight loss may be even greater when the tissues start eliminating surplus water. Do not be disturbed if you vary a little, one way or another, from the predicted losses, for there are countless subtle factors that modify your own rate of reduction.

Naturally, you will lose fat even faster if your diet is less than 1,000 calories per day. You probably have a natural desire to get results in a hurry, so step up and meet the a diet that will reduce you faster than fasting, that will satisfy your hunger and at the same time increase your vigor and sense of well-being?

Ordinarily, a weight loss of from 1½ to 2 pounds a week is the maximum permitted by physicians. Unquestionably this is a safe, sound, and sensible principle to follow. You would be much better off figuring your daily calorie intake is more like 1,200 to 1,500 as going any lower may cause you to miss important nutrients and could send you body into starvation mode and slow the fat burning down.

Protein isnecessary to repair the body and also helps keep us feeling full longer.

You can see why the new weight loss diets emphasize protein, because you protein will help keep away cravings and have less calories per gram than fat does and unlike carbs, protein doesn’t turn to fat as quickly.

When you eat proteins you really hire a Simon Legree to crack the whip on lazy calories, making them buckle down to honest toil instead of picking daisies as they drift to your fat depots.

Nor is the weight loss aspect of proteins their sole claim to fame. They stimulate the general efficiency of your body, replace worn out tissues, furnish materials for zippy gland hormones and build vigor and stamina.

Many people still have a vague impression that a high-protein diet is unhealthy. Doctors used to think so too, but the newer knowledge of nutrition has pretty generally knocked the props from under this idea. One supposedly dangerous effect of protein was its action on the kidneys.

Various ailments of these vital organs were laid to heavy eating of protein. In recent months, doctors have discarded this superstition so completely that today high-protein diets are prescribed for some—not all—kidney ailments.

Vilhjalmur Stefansson, the Arctic explorer, spent several years living with Eskimos on an exclusive meat diet. According to theories then current, he should have been struck down by all manner of ailments, from Bright’s disease to scurvy. He was so uncooperative with theory, however, as to thrive on his all-meat, high-protein diet.

His “unbalanced” eating habits failed even to raise his blood pressure, and he was downright stubborn in his insistence that he never felt better in his life. Later he lived on the same diet in New York, where physicians could clap stethoscopes on him.

They couldn’t find a thing wrong with him. Since then there has been abundant evidence that high-protein diets can be continued indefinitely without ill effect, except in certain cases of disease.

Experiments leading to the belief that protein was dangerous to kidneys were performed, in large part, before the all-important effects of vitamins and minerals were well understood.

Another supposed danger of proteins—that they rot in the intestines and produce poisons absorbed by the body—is much more theoretical than real. We have all hear about detoxing diets that advertise to empty 20 pounds of rotted meat from our colons. Although, detoxing diets will empty out your colon, much, if not all is food that you have eaten within 24 hours - not the 10 years that they often claim.

An inflamed, diseased colon can conceivably absorb toxins through its walls. That a normal colon will do is extremely doubtful. The theory of poison absorption is the popularly horrifying one of “autointoxication.” Curiously, no one has ever satisfactorily demonstrated the presence in the blood, or the. specific identity of, the postulated poisons that stage these Borgian Blitzkriegs. One famous experiment by Dr. Walter Alvarez of the Mayo Clinic has demonstrated that every symptom attributed to “autointoxication” can be produced by stuffing the rectum with cotton.

The symptoms are real, but the causes are more mechanical than chemical.

Meat is by no means the only excellent source of protein. Other animal products—milk, eggs, cheese—are outstanding. A protein is considered biologically complete if it furnishes liberal amounts of the amino acids needed by the body.

Protein, should be just one part of your healthy diet as carbs and fats are also important. If you eat a well rounded diet you should be getting enough protein and don’t need to try to fit extra in. Although protein is good for you, over doing it, like over doing any food group will just add to weight gain, not weight loss.

You turn on the TV late at night and you see an infomercial for the latest ab gadget or some other weight loss gadget and wonder if it will work for you.

A few things you must think about first before you open your wallet

Ab gadgets have come and gone. if one was so good then why don’t you see it anymore?>

Are you really going to use the gadget? Answer this honestly.

Have you purchased any gadgets before and thought that you would use them forever, but they only let you down?

Can you complete this exercise without any gadget or do you have an ailment like a bad back, and the gadget will allow you to exercise because of this gadget?

Is the gadget affordable, does it seem way to expensive or even too cheap?

Is shipping expensive? Remember that if you want to return the gadget you are responsible for shipping charges for it to be sent back and more-then-likely had to pay shipping charges to your home. How much will you be out if you want to return the product?

99% of the weight loss and ab gadgets are not going to give you the results that you think you will get -so remember don’t be impulsive - think days before your order any gadget (even if they say “if you order within the next 5 minutes you’ll also receive…..”. You’ll probably get the extra whether you order right away or several days later and the extra time to think about it will help you make an informed decision..
