Christmas Drinks That Will Expand Your Waistline

Christmas is not just about cookies and cakes but also those drinks which flow in abundance at Christmas parties. Truth to be told, drinks are an integral part of any holiday, and not just Christmas. Be it New Year, Easter, July 4th, Thanksgiving, etc., a party without drinks is considered a failure!

There are some drinks which have been traditionally associated with a particular holiday or season, one example of which is eggnog! Eggnog is an integral part of the Christmas season.

This is all good but the twist in the tale is that if you drink too much, you may gain weight! Sounds surprising? Read on to find out what I mean!

As a matter of fact, people believe that if they simply avoid the high calorie Christmas foods, such as cakes, chocolates, cookies, candies, etc., they won’t gain weight. As such, many ‘health conscious’ people tend to avoid these foods at Christmas parties; heck, some even look at the poor Christmas turkey with an eye of suspicion! However, this is just a partial truth. Even if you monitor your food intake, you could still gain weight during Christmas!

As a matter of fact, while people regulate their food intake, they fail to exercise self-control when it comes to drinks. People believe that all those darn calories are only in solid foods, and that drinks are ‘okay’. This is a big misconception. Drinks contain no less calories than foods; in fact I would say that some drinks have more calories than even the fattiest food out there! Add to that the fact that people usually have more than one of these calorie-rich drinks!

Now who can blame the poor tummy if it bulges out after all these?

Let’s focus on the famous eggnog first.
Alcoholic eggnog consists of almost 394 calories, while its nonalcoholic counterpart contains no less than 343 calories! Next comes the Irish Cream Liqueur, which is another popular drink among holidaymakers. If you drink just four ounces of Irish Cream Liqueur, you have consumed a whooping 400 calories! Whole milk, when mixed with hot cocoa, has a staggering 190 calories!

Now think about it: if you would drink these high caloric drinks in huge quantities, how could you keep your weight in check?
Be it foods or drinks, it is important to know about healthier substitutes of either one.

Fortunately, there are a lot of low-calorie drinks that you could ask for so as to keep your belly from bulging out! One example, of such a drink is the non alcoholic wine. You won’t believe that it contains less than 10 calories! And don’t forget about Champagne punch either; with just 74 calories per four ounces, this is yet another great holiday drink you could have this Christmas!

So the next time you hit a Christmas party, be sure to keep your drinks in check; remember that they could prove to be as bad for your health as foods!
