Tops Secrets For Staying Slim During The Holidays
Christmas is the season of joy, but you maybe surprised to find out that some people are really not very happy in this season.
It has nothing to do with being short on money, or not having many friends, it has to do with gaining the “normal” holiday weight.
With all those delicious foods and drinks flowing all around and the uncountable number party invitations we receive during this time, who except an ascetic could resist the temptation of giving in to their food cravings?
We may regulate our calorie intake throughout the rest of the year, we may stay on boring diets all our life, but sometimes, we do need to give in to our food cravings, and Christmas gives us the perfect excuse to indulge ourselves a bit! But unfortunately, more often than not we overdo it and end up gaining in inches and pounds! We surely love the taste of the delicacies served to us at Christmas parties but we definitely don’t like our newly acquired “15 pounds of holiday weight”.
Add to that the fact that people usually prefer to rest on their warm couches and watch the latest television shows during this season, instead of bothering to visit the gym and do some weight lifting, or at least do some home exercises! Weight gain is the natural result of over-eating and ‘under-activity’! So what is the way out?
I have mentioned it numerous times and I will mention it here again: moderation is the key to success in weight loss. If you eat your favorite foods moderately throughout the rest of the year , you won’t feel any need to overindulge yourself during this season. On the other hand, if you keep yourself deprived throughout the rest of the year in the hope that you will get to eat all of your favorite foods in huge quantities during Christmas, then you will be sorry!
And don’t think you would be able to lose all those extra pounds as quickly as you gained them! Do you plan to fast for two weeks straight and expect to shed all the pounds? Then you are in for a shock! Fasting would lower your metabolic rate and that would stop the fat burning process. As soon as you break your fast, you will gain back whatever weight you had ‘lost’!
And don’t think you could shed all those newly acquired pounds by doing cardios for hours on end! If you have never exercised before, then sudden intense activities could injure your muscles!
So what do you do? Like I said, exercise moderation and you will be fine. During Christmas, reduce your daily calorie intake by no more than 500 calories and exercise for no more than an hour per day. Such moderate changes in your lifestyle won’t harm your health in any way and at the same time, would help you stay fit even if you eat a few high-calorie foods at parties!
Don’t forget to drink at least a glass of water before you hit the party! Water will suppress your hunger to a certain extent! Thus you would be able to feel full even by eating moderately! Increasing your daily water intake by a few glasses is any day better than drinking gallons of water in the hope of quick weight loss!
Follow these tips and you won’t have to live in fear of Christmas. Remember that Christmas is a symbol of joy and merriment; don’t let ‘weight issues’ ruin that joy which comes to us only once in a year!
