Diet Fads VS a Sensible Diet

Diet fads are a dime a dozen as we all know. Every year there is one or more new ways to lose weight and sometimes it’s just an old diet being revived. The ones with the most hype usually get the most customers and people jump on board to try them while other people jump off after trying it and getting another disappointment.

First of all, the promoters of these fads know that people will come and go like they do through a revolving door, but they aren’t too worried because everyone leaves their little monetary deposit on the way through. Some other plans that have a more sensible approach also have people coming and going because many people find it too difficult and/or don’t get results as fast or as much as they wanted. Others go through because they try every new diet that comes along thinking they have finally found the magic one and when it doesn’t give them the magic, they go looking again.

One present fad is people (mostly women) getting up earlier in the morning and going to a weight loss center and exercising.
We all need exercise, but exercising just to lose weight is a losing game except for the gym owner. People usually come and go with this approach too because it never gives them all the weight loss they desired.

Another approach is the plans that promote “special” foods that they want you to purchase which is rather amusing since all they are trying to do is get you to eat healthier non-fattening foods. All one has to do to get healthy non-fattening food is to learn what is good for the body and then purchase these items from local stores. These “special” foods usually have a pretty special price tag too.

The most important step in losing weight is to feed the body what it needs via healthy food. Food that is super healthy is also non-fattening. For example, one can eat fresh, uncooked fruit and vegetables all day and not get fat. When the body receives proper nutrition it automatically sheds unneeded pounds. There are extreme cases where organs/glands aren’t functioning at 100% capacity and this result in weight gain because foods aren’t being processed properly, but this malfunction is usually due to improper nutrition in the first place.

The best way to lose weight is to learn what healthy foods are and some basics about how your body processes foods. Then you will come to realize that it is more what you eat than how much you eat. A good place to start is the book shelf in a local health food store and ask questions.

If asked, most people would say that they eat healthy, but if pressed further to explain what healthy eating really is, most do not know how to describe it. For some reason most people think that if they get enough to eat in regard to volume, they are giving their body what it needs and this is actually far from the truth. Also, most people will not pay attention to their health until they have problems. The good part is that a healthy diet can correct many problems without involving Doctors or spending a lot of money.

Best Fast Food Choices

A fast food joint isn’t exactly a nutritional paradise, but sometimes you have absolutely no other choice. Try the following tips for making better choices.

Don’t assume that a salad is the healthiest choice. At Taco Bell, a taco salad with ranch dressing, weighing in at 1,167 calories, has more calories than any other item on the menu. (61 percent of which come from fat.) Salad bars can be a danger zone, too. If you drown your lettuce in blue cheese dressing or pile on the marshmallow ambrosia and potato salad with olives, you may be even worse off than if you order a burger and fries.

When you order burgers and sandwiches, look for words like “Junior” and “small.” Order your burger without the cheese, special sauce, and mayo; lettuce, tomato, onion, mustard, ketchup, and pickles supply plenty of flavor. And avoid items with the words “double” or “super” in the description. If you can’t resist those two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, and onions on a sesame-seed bun, at least try to balance out the damage with exercise

Weight Loss And Metabolism

Weight Loss And Metabolism - Burning Off Excess Calories While Staying Healthy

Many of us who are struggling with our weight often wonder how some of our friends, family members, or co-workers have the ability to eat, eat, and eat constantly, without every losing their slim and trim figure. Many times when we ask exactly how they do it, we get an answer that has to do with metabolism. This has you questioning exactly what weight loss and metabolism have to do with each other.

First, what is a metabolic rate? Simply put, it is the rate, in calories, that your body uses energy. Typically, if you have a high metabolic rate, you will burn more calories. At the same time, if you have a low metabolic rate, you will burn fewer calories. The rate at which you burn calories is dependant on several different things.

Many people believe that if you eat less, you lose more. In actuality, eating less could work in the exact opposite, it can slow down the rate at which you lose weight or slow the entire dieting process down all together. According to nutritionists, the less food calories you consume, the more the body believes that it is not being fed enough. This makes the body conserve the energy you do consume and store it for later use, which slows down your metabolism.

The body reserves this energy, allowing it to use it as a reserve. By eating less food you are essentially slowing down your rate of weight loss. In keeping with this theory, it is said that your body will do everything it can to keep this energy stored. This is a harmful process, because it will refuse to use the reserve for energy, which means it has to get its energy from somewhere. The body starts to use and burn the tissues within your muscles, keeping its reserve, and thwarting your efforts to become thinner.

It is essentially, in order to stop this process is to ensure that you are eating the adequate amount of foods daily, to prevent the body from the need to go into the mode of starvation. However, you should eat enough daily, but control the calories you consume daily at the same time. All of this is essential when it comes to your weight loss and metabolism.

Of course, every dieter is different therefore there is no formula to answer everyone’s weight loss needs. The amount of calories you should consume each day can be determined by a physician or a nutritionist.

Weight loss and metabolism go hand in hand most times. Occasionally, your metabolism can slow down while you are dieting, but exercise is believed to help combat this area. When you exercise, you are essentially providing your body with health in two ways. The first way is that with exercise, your metabolic rate may be higher, allowing you to lose weight by burning off excess calories. Furthermore, when you exercise you are building muscle within the body, which too can aid in burning calories. Research suggests that muscles tend to burn more calories at a quicker rate, than that of fat.

When it comes to weight loss and metabolism, one of the most efficient ways to boost the metabolic rate is to exercise, you can lose weight and gain more muscle within the body.

Although there are many weight loss products in the marketplace that promise you a slim, trim body without exercise, remember that although you may lose the weight you body won’t be firm and your skin will be lose and hanging. Only with exercise will you be able to firm it up and look tight. Always add some type of exercise to your dieting plan. If you are not sure of your health status or if you have health issues get in touch with your doctor. Often an appointment can be made for late in the afternoon when their office is slower, and the nurse can give you booklets and information for free. Many times if you just want to know if you are healthy enough to exercise you doctor’s appointment may be paid 100% by your insurance company. Call your insurance company to find out.

Power Walking

Power Walking-no, I am not talking about the type of power walking where you take small steps, walk as fast and you can and wiggle your butt.

I am talking about adding weights and/or resistance to your normal walking routine. Like everything that has to do with exercise, your body begins to get used to it and you stop seeing results.

When it comes to walking, you will find that you are less out of breath, metabolism no longer stays high for a long period of time and you stop losing weight. When this happens, it’s time to start adding a bit of resistance to your walking routine.

First of all never, and I mean never add ankle weights. This will throw your body out of alignment and cause many long time issues.

You can however, add hand or wrist weights or resistance bands or pulls.

My favorite way to add a bit of resistance, is with the Denise Austin power belt. Worn on the waist it is 3 x’s more effective than hand weights. Also, when you get tired the handles retract so it frees your hands. With handweights, you have to carry them the entire time.

The power belt also burns around 71% more calories than walking on it’s own. 71%!

The power belt also has resistance levels you that you can work your way up. If you purchase hand weights, you must continue to purchase heavier weights, not with the power belt.

If you have been walking for more than 3 months, then it’s probably time for your to add speed , distance or resistance to your walking routine. If your already walking as fast as you like and don’t have time to increase your distance, then it’s time to add the Power Belt to your routine & burn those extra calories.

If you ask 20 people on the street, which part of their body they would like to firm up and improve, 19 would answer “their abs”.
